"Human
beings have always employed an enormous amount of clever
devices for running away from themselves...we can keep
ourselves busy, fill our lives with so many diversions,
stuff our heads with so much knowledge, involve ourselves
with so many people and cover so much ground that we
never have time to probe the fearful and wonderful world
within.... By middle life, most of us are accomplished
fugitives from ourselves."
- John

One
of the hardest things to do in the world is ask a good question.
Because if you can ask the question you can answer it. Coaching
is about asking really good questions. We all have our own answers
inside and sometimes we just lack the appropriate question to access
them. It is like having someone who is substantially taller than
you, walk with you down the path that person has a different
perspective and is not so close to the ground and nor as mired
in the details.
"This
above all: to thine own self be true."
- William Shakespeare (Hamlet)

It is a relationship that is of different quality than any
other relationship you will have. A coach will tell you their
perceptions and inklings and observations, and point out patterns
and beliefs that might no longer serve. A friend might not risk
losing the friendship by telling you those things. A coach will
keep your information and confidence sacrosanct, a sibling might
not, so you can say anything to your coach and feel heard.
"Nature
forms us for ourselves, not for others; to be, not to
seem."
- Michel de Montaigne (1533
- 1592)

Who do I work with?
I generally work with three kinds of people. They are:
1) People who have suffered enough emotionally, mentally, physically,
and/or spiritually by doing work that is draining and meaningless
to them and want to change that.
2) People who recognize that they have always suspected that
they were here for a reason and just don't know what that
is yet. They are awake enough to suspect there must be more joy,
passion, and juice to life than this and are willing to do the
work to know for sure.
3) People who have it "all" and have found out that
there is still a hole inside that can not be filled by more stuff.
Only meaning fits in there.
"A
musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet
must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself."
- Abraham Maslow
